Project Overview

A music enthusiast contacted DECIBEL to improve the acoustic comfort of their living room, with the goal of reducing sound reflections and creating an optimal listening environment. The client wanted a solution that balanced acoustic performance with interior design. DECIBEL developed and installed a custom treatment focused on the wall behind the speakers, forming the first step in a planned multi-phase project.

Enhancing Sound for a Home Listening Space

In residential environments where music is a key part of daily life, poor acoustics can reduce sound clarity and listener enjoyment. The client wanted to enjoy better audio without altering the character of the room. The solution needed to control reflections while also blending into the interior design.

Challenge

The challenge was to improve the acoustics of a shared living and dining room without disrupting its visual balance. Because the space is used for both entertainment and daily living, the treatment had to be effective, visually discreet, and designed for easy expansion in the future.

Scope of Work

The project began with a consultation to understand the client’s needs and expectations. DECIBEL then conducted acoustic simulations to identify the most problematic areas in the room. Together with the client, the team selected suitable materials and agreed to focus the first phase of the treatment on the wall behind the speakers.

The chosen solution included the design and installation of WAVO white wooden panels, which offer both sound absorption and clean aesthetics. Design visualisations were provided to help the client visualise the final look. Plans for a second phase, treating the ceiling and dining area, were discussed as a future step. The project was completed with the production and precise installation of the selected panels.

Solution

DECIBEL recommended the use of WAVO white wooden acoustic panels, chosen for their strong sound absorption properties and minimal, modern design. By treating the wall behind the speakers, the first stage of the project significantly reduced sound reflections and enhanced listening clarity. The modular approach allows for additional treatment in the future without impacting the current setup.

Result

The installed acoustic panels provided a noticeable improvement in the sound quality of the living room. The design aligned perfectly with the client’s visual preferences, and the treatment integrated seamlessly into the home’s interior. The client was very satisfied with the results and expressed interest in continuing with the second phase to further improve the room’s acoustics.
