Acoustic Treatment of Home Studio in Sofia

Project Overview
Studio Kristiyan Lachev approached DECIBEL with a request for the acoustic treatment of a home studio. The client uses the space for audio and video podcasts, videocasts, instrument recording, and vocal work. The main requirement was to find a budget-friendly yet high-quality solution that would significantly improve the sound environment.
After a site visit by one of our engineers, DECIBEL designed a treatment plan combining Acoustic Pyramid panels for the ceiling and Echo Wall panels for the walls, ensuring both performance and cost-efficiency.
Acoustic Treatment for a Versatile Home Studio
Home studios used for multiple recording purposes require effective control of reflections and reverberation. Poor acoustics can reduce clarity in podcasts, distort instrument recordings, and negatively affect vocal takes. This project focused on creating a flexible, professional sound environment tailored to the client’s varied recording needs.
Challenge
The studio space included many windows on both sides of the room, which created strong reflections and excessive echo. The client also requested a solution more effective than standard curtains, but still removable when fresh air and daylight were needed. The challenge was to balance cost, performance, and flexibility in one design.
Scope of Work
- Site visit and acoustic inspection by DECIBEL engineer
- Design of a mixed treatment using Acoustic Pyramid ceiling panels and Echo Wall panels
- Production of custom Echo Wall panels with “venduzi” mounts for glass installation
- Installation of panels across the ceiling, walls, and window areas
- Ensured removable and reusable solutions for client flexibility
Solution
The ceiling was treated with Acoustic Pyramid panels, which provided effective sound absorption at critical reflection points. For the walls, Echo Wall panels were installed to further reduce reverberation. To address the window surfaces, custom Echo Wall panels were produced with special “venduzi” mounting systems. These allowed the panels to be attached directly to the glass and removed when needed, giving the client flexibility to enjoy natural ventilation and reinstall the panels quickly when working.
Result
The acoustic treatment created a balanced and professional environment for podcasts, videocasts, instrument recordings, and vocals. Echo and reflections were significantly reduced, and the client reported much clearer recordings. The removable window panels added convenience without sacrificing acoustic performance. The client was very satisfied with the results and expressed interest in continuing future projects with DECIBEL.
