Project Overview

DECIBEL carried out acoustic improvements at the P. Vladigerov Museum in Sofia, Bulgaria. The project focused on a rehearsal room within the museum, where the existing acoustic conditions were not suitable for musical practice.

The goal was to enhance the sound quality of the space, making it more functional for rehearsals without compromising the room’s purpose or aesthetics.

Challenge

The rehearsal room suffered from poor acoustic performance, which led to issues such as excessive echo, lack of clarity, and uneven sound distribution. In a musical setting, these issues can hinder both the effectiveness of rehearsals and the comfort of performers. The challenge was to deliver an efficient acoustic solution within the context of a museum environment.

Scope of Work

DECIBEL conducted a full acoustic assessment of the room to identify the source and extent of the problem. Based on the findings, the team designed a treatment strategy, produced fabric-covered acoustic panels, and completed the installation with minimal disruption to the space.

Solution

The acoustic treatment involved the use of custom-made textile acoustic panels. These panels were selected for their sound absorption properties and were installed strategically to target the main problem areas in the room.

The solution helped bring balance to the space, supporting clearer sound and a more focused rehearsal experience.

Result

Following the installation, the room’s acoustic conditions improved significantly. Musicians now benefit from a more controlled and comfortable environment that supports musical clarity and natural sound. The treatment also blended well with the room’s visual identity, preserving its function within the museum.

Acoustic comfort is essential in rehearsal spaces, where sound quality directly impacts performance. DECIBEL’s work at the P. Vladigerov Museum is a strong example of how thoughtful, small-scale acoustic interventions can restore functionality and enhance cultural spaces used for artistic development.
