Project Overview

Telerik Academy, a private educational organisation founded in 2009 by Telerik, is known for providing practical programming training that prepares students and professionals for the demands of the digital economy.

In late 2017, the Academy approached DECIBEL with a request to install a sound masking system across key areas of its offices, an initiative inspired by similar setups in their US-based locations.

Challenge

The need for acoustic control was identified in two distinct zones: the open-plan office area used by Telerik employees and two teaching rooms within the Academy. These spaces required better control of background noise to support both focused work and uninterrupted teaching.

The challenge was to create an acoustic environment that enhances concentration and speech privacy without disrupting the daily schedule of the Academy.

Scope of Work

• On-site consultation and acoustic analysis

• Identification of treatment zones: open space area and two teaching rooms

Solution

DECIBEL installed a Sound Masking System comprising a compact controller and zone-specific speakers that emit unobtrusive narrowband noise. The system uses Automatic Level Control (ALC) via noise sensors placed in each treated area.

These sensors allow the system to adapt dynamically to fluctuating ambient noise, ensuring consistent acoustic comfort throughout the day. Management of the system is simplified through a dedicated application interface.

Result

The installation was completed in approximately a week and a half, fully coordinated around the Academy’s active training schedule. Following integration, the acoustic quality in both the office and classrooms improved significantly. Staff and students reported better concentration, increased productivity, and a more balanced working and learning atmosphere.
