Luxury Restaurant Soundproofing in San Stefano Plaza

Project Overview

San Stefano Plaza is one of Sofia’s most advanced mixed-use developments, a multifunctional complex that includes residences, commercial spaces, a gym and spa, an art gallery, and more. While the convenience of such a space is undeniable, the combination of functions also poses a real challenge for maintaining acoustic comfort.

In 2017, DECIBEL was commissioned to provide professional soundproofing for the high-end restaurant “Shtastlivetsa” within the complex. The goal: to ensure that the activities in the restaurant would not disturb the residential units located directly above it.

Challenge

The main issue was the risk of structure-borne noise transmitting from the restaurant to the living spaces above. The architectural complexity of the site and the premium nature of the project demanded a solution that was not only technically sound but also minimally invasive in terms of usable space.

Scope of Work

• Acoustic inspection and noise measurement of the existing structure
• Design and testing of a custom soundproofing solution
• Supply and installation of DECIBEL sound insulation systems, including: MUTE SYSTEM wall panels; New-generation ceiling suspension system
• On-site coordination to address built-in installations and maximise spatial efficiency

Solution

DECIBEL’s engineers conducted a detailed acoustic assessment of the site and developed a bespoke solution combining our proprietary MUTE SYSTEM panels with a suspended ceiling system. This approach ensured high-level sound isolation without compromising the interior layout or aesthetics.

Despite the tight architectural constraints, DECIBEL completed the installation without encroaching significantly on usable space, a key requirement from the client.

Result

Final acoustic measurements revealed that the implemented solution achieved sound insulation results up to 5.6 dB better than the initial projections. The restaurant now operates without affecting the peace and comfort of the neighbouring residential areas, proving the efficiency of DECIBEL’s engineering and execution.

In multi-use developments, the acoustic boundaries between commercial and residential functions must be carefully designed to ensure long-term occupant satisfaction. Restaurants, in particular, generate a mix of airborne and impact noise that can severely affect living spaces above.

This project illustrates how integrating tailored soundproofing early or retroactively with precision can protect both the reputation of the venue and the quality of life for residents.
