Noise Control for HVAC Systems at Toyo Tires Factory

Project Overview
In 2022, Toyo Tires opened a new factory in Serbia. Shortly after, the company discovered that its HVAC systems were producing excessive noise, disrupting one of the factory’s most important processes: tire testing. Since accurate testing includes measuring tire noise levels, the interference from the HVAC system made it impossible to obtain reliable results.
DECIBEL was asked to provide a solution that would address the noise problem while maintaining the functionality of the HVAC system.
Ensuring Accurate Tire Testing with Noise Control
For tire manufacturers, testing requires precise measurements of tire noise across different conditions. If background noise interferes, the results are unreliable and can slow down product development and quality assurance. By controlling noise at the source, DECIBEL ensured Toyo Tires could carry out accurate tests without interruptions from external equipment.
Challenge
The primary challenge was the HVAC system located on the roof, where pipes were blowing hot air from the production area. This produced constant noise that not only disturbed operations but also reflected off surfaces back onto the tire testing track. The installation required lifting heavy silencers and PZP panels onto the roof, which meant using a large crane to position the materials safely and efficiently.
Scope of Work
- On-site inspection and noise measurements to identify the problem
- Design of a noise control solution targeting the HVAC system
- Installation of silencers at the noise source
- Fitting of PZP acoustic panels without backing on reflective surfaces to prevent sound bounce
- Use of a large crane to lift all materials onto the rooftop for installation
- Final measurements to confirm the effectiveness of the solution
Solution
DECIBEL installed silencers at the critical points of the HVAC system to reduce noise directly at the source. To prevent further disturbance, PZP acoustic panels were mounted on reflective surfaces near the track, ensuring that noise would not bounce back into the testing area. The rooftop installation was carefully managed with a crane to transport and position the large materials. This combined approach tackled both direct noise and reflections, creating a quieter environment for accurate tire testing.
Result
After installation, DECIBEL conducted control measurements to verify the results. The noise was successfully reduced to the agreed levels, allowing Toyo Tires to carry out reliable tire testing without external interference. The project provided a long-term solution that protected both the quality of testing and the efficiency of production.
