Rooftop Soundproofing of Cooling Tower

Project Overview
Following the successful completion of a previous project with Marriott, DECIBEL was invited once again, this time to address a rooftop noise issue at the prestigious Freedom Hotel, a seven-star property in the heart of Tbilisi. The task: Soundproofing a large cooling tower unit positioned on the roof.
Challenge
The cooling tower, measuring 10x15x5 metres, was generating significant noise due to its heat sinks.
The solution needed to reduce this noise while also complying with structural and aesthetic requirements of the hotel, including withstanding extreme wind loads of up to 150 km/h.
Scope of Work
- Acoustic consultation and noise assessment
- Design of a custom noise barrier system
- Supply and installation of PZP soundproofing panels
- Mounting of panels on an 8-metre-high structural frame
- Engineering for wind load resistance
Solution
DECIBEL enclosed the rooftop cooling tower with a tall acoustic barrier built from PZP panels.
The barrier was mounted on an 8-metre steel framework designed to endure high wind pressure while delivering both noise reduction and architectural cohesion with the building.
Result
The barrier delivered a noticeable reduction in operational noise from the cooling tower, meeting the client’s acoustic performance expectations.
Its durability and visual integration enhanced the technical infrastructure without compromising the hotel’s luxury standard. Satisfied with the outcome, the client has since approached DECIBEL with further projects.
In the hospitality sector, rooftop mechanical noise can be a hidden disruptor of guest comfort. Tailored rooftop soundproofing solutions, such as PZP barriers, ensure compliance with urban noise regulations while preserving the serene experience expected in luxury hotels.
