Soundproofing Diesel Generators for Marriott Hotel

Project Overview

DECIBEL continued its collaboration with the renowned Marriott hotel chain by taking on a second acoustic challenge; this time, the soundproofing of diesel generators at the same complex where we had previously treated the chillers.

The client’s trust in our results led to a new assignment aimed at further enhancing the acoustic environment of the hotel’s technical areas.

Challenge

The diesel generators were producing disruptive noise levels within the building’s service zones.

The challenge was to bring those levels below 60 dB without compromising airflow or access for maintenance, while also adhering to strict engineering and aesthetic requirements.

Scope of Work

• Design and implementation of two soundproofing constructions tailored to the diesel generator room
• Production and installation.
• Adjustment of construction geometry to accommodate proper ventilation and optimise airflow
• Final acoustic performance testing and verification

• Metal double-sided perforated silencers
• Soundproofing doors with reinforced hinges

Solution

DECIBEL’s engineering team developed a solution combining custom-built metal silencers with a double-perforated design, offering both high sound absorption and airflow continuity.

A second construction was designed with unique geometry to ensure effective cooling circulation. Specialised soundproof doors were also installed to seal the space acoustically while maintaining operational durability and ease of access.

Result

The sound levels of the diesel generators were successfully reduced to below 60 dB, aligning with the client’s expectations.

This ensured a peaceful environment for hotel guests and uninterrupted operation of the backup power systems. The project reinforced DECIBEL’s reputation as a trusted acoustic partner in hospitality engineering.
